Quality control is essential when importing from Nepal. Without proper standards, you risk receiving products that don't match your specifications or violate your customers' expectations. This guide covers the key quality control standards and inspection types you need to know.

What is AQL? AQL (Acceptable Quality Level) is the international standard for product inspection sampling, defined under ANSI/ASQ Z1.4 and ISO 2859. It determines how many units are inspected based on your order size and the acceptable defect rate. For most consumer goods from Nepal, we recommend AQL 2.5 for major defects.

Types of quality control inspections: 1) Pre-production inspection (PPI): conducted before production starts to verify materials and components. 2) Mid-production inspection (MPI): conducted when 30-50% of production is complete to catch issues early. 3) Pre-shipment inspection (PSI): conducted when production is complete and goods are packed, your last chance to catch problems before shipment.

Defect classifications under AQL: Critical defects (safety hazards or regulatory violations - zero tolerance), Major defects (affect functionality, appearance, or marketability), Minor defects (small imperfections not affecting use but deviating from specifications).

How to set your AQL level: for most consumer goods, AQL 2.5 is recommended. For premium or high-value products, use AQL 1.5 (stricter). For commodity products where minor imperfections are acceptable, AQL 4.0 may be appropriate. Nepal Trade Solutions recommends the appropriate AQL level based on your product category, order value, and quality requirements.

Our quality control process: every inspection we perform follows AQL standards. We provide detailed reports with photographs, defect codes, and pass/fail determinations. Reports are delivered within 24 hours (PSI) or 48 hours (factory audit). We also offer MPI at 30-50% production completion with a 24-hour turnaround.
